<image:title>Hear from our Team - How Anxiety Hijacks Young Kids - What Anxiety Feels Like</image:title>
<image:caption>Anxiety is the body’s alarm system. When an anxious child feels threatened, whether by a pop quiz, being separated from a parent, or in an unfamiliar social setting, the brain signals “danger.” The amygdala, the brain’s fear center, goes into overdrive, triggering a fight, flight, or freeze response. This system is meant to protect us, but in anxious children, it misfires. Everyday events, like going to school, meeting new people, or even trying a new food, can feel overwhelming. Their body may react with a rapid heartbeat, sweaty palms, tense muscles, headaches or stomachaches. They may seek reassurance, often asking questions related to safety or what to expect. They may try to avoid stressors, leading to tantrums. What may look like defiance or clinginess on the outside can often be fear on the inside.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Telehealth & Hampton Ashley is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Governor’s University in 2017 and graduated with her Master of Science in Nursing in 2022. Before she began her career as a Nurse Practitioner, Ashley worked as a psychiatric registered nurse for over 8 years treating adult and geriatric populations with various mental health care needs in acute inpatient and correctional settings. Ashley believes medication management is just one part of successful mental health care and integrates therapy, self-care, and mindfulness while working collaboratively with her clients to identify goals of treatment throughout their journey. She follows a holistic approach to mental health by exploring lifestyle changes including exercise, sleep, and diet in addition to conventional medicine. Ashley views each client as a unique individual and not their diagnosis and strives to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health care. She provides care across the lifespan to include anxiety, depression, mood disorders, thought disorders, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, substance use disorders. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, being outdoors, traveling and acrylic painting.</image:caption>
